Invitation To Dance

...she puts her cassette-player in the middle of the street, and... music!... invites passers-by, to dance along... a waltz, a whirling waltz or whatever. Hesitation... shy response, then... well, okay! (a man accepts her invitation.) Dance. They dance! and others, join... and in no time the whole street swings and sways, and swirls and whirls... People gather in a crowd, stopping, watching, they laugh sing clap, to the rhythm of this hip (no ties in hypnotizing) melody.

The Police arrive, out of tune and out of time. The choice: to disperse or to be dispersed... nervous truncheons, nervous... woman with the cassette-player she has left. But the crowd, the people, we stay here, we watch, we wait... will the cops return? Then, a soft humming... humming... louder, louder... a capella the music melody is sung anew... and bit by bit, the whole street starts dancing again...
