Excuse the fact that this is advertising for a surf apparel giant and you'll get a nice piece of surfing history. Tom Curren's first wave at J Bay as Apartheid was finally on its way out. Legend has it he boycotted South Africa until that point. Curren and J Bay were always going to be a match made in heaven. His style of surfing was simply meant for the J Bay canvas. Perhaps, it is a true testimony to his ethics that he held off this pilgrimage for so long.
No matter how far surfing has come in the last twenty years, linking turns even remotely like Curren is still a huge aspiration. I can never quite articulate how inspiring Curren is. It is probably best to not even try.
Let's hope they re-release Searching for TC at some point...
