Your Death Is My Song

Your death is my song
Is that so bad?

You on the beach
Swept away by a wave

I thought about reaching for your hand
But I  sat back and wallowed in the warm  mud
quite safe and comfortable

You gave me many chances
Reaching for the sky
Grab me you asked
Look me in the eye
you demanded
Grab me
you pleaded
And then you surrendered

You read my first poem
You loomed over me
Your bible scared me
Your bottle of vodka confused me
Your green eyes about to submerge
under the black waters
tore me apart

I dream of you often
I delay waking up

We can breathe under water,
you tell me
Just believe it
Have no doubt
Just take in a deep lungful
of the sea
and swim with me
